One-Saturday-a-Month Bookbinding Workshop with Edel Hopkin

Saturday Workshops

This class is held in the traditional workshop environment of Brignell Bookbinders in Gwydir Street, CB1.

You will be guided through each structure and will leave with a completed book, along with the confidence and instructions and inspiration to repeat similar processes process at home.

All materials will be provided and starter kits are available should you wish.

Refreshments and snacks will be available; please bring a packed lunch.

Saturday, August 29th, 9.30am - 4.30pm
Make your own hard-backed Journal, Album or Sketchbook (typically about 21cm square but you can specify your own size) and emboss it with a title or your name. A thrilling achievement in a day and a great gift if you can bear to put someone else's name on it! Combine this with the raised bands class for an extra special effect.

Saturday, September 26th, 9.30am - 4.30pm
Single Page Binding
A decorative way of sewing single pages into a book format that lies totally flat. Great for art, poetry, photographs.
Saturday, October 31th, 9.30am - 4.30pm
Paper and Book Repair

Learn the basics to include page repairs using a variety of paper and tissues, 'pulling down' of a book, section repairs, title page strengthening and cloth re-backing.
Saturday, November 21 9.30am - 4.30pm

Learn to make this easily-repeatable medieval book structure using beautiful marbled or chiyogami paper, or bring your own. Lying completely flat when opened, this exposed spine notebook makes a great travel journal or sketchbook. Great Christmas present!
