Biography / Company Profile:

After gaining a BA Honours in Fine Art Painting at Wimbledon School of Art, I went on to complete postgraduate studies at Goldsmiths University. I have been making and exhibiting work throughout the UK since then and have shown work at the Royal Academy of Art. I became interested in printmaking in 2002 and now incorporate etching, collagraph and screenprint into my practice. I currently spend one day a week at the Curwen Print Study Centre where I am developing a new series for 2015. I paint from memories of landscapes that are special to me. My finished pieces are enigmatic, suggesting and inferring shapes and surfaces. Each painting is made up of many subtle layers, much like the weathered forms I am fascinated by. Eroded rocks, a glimpse of copper shimmering through peat stained rivers, sun blistered paint and rust on old boat keels; these are the small treasures that capture my attention. When painting I combine acrylic paint, collage, wax and metal leaf. I work on several pieces at once, building up textures and layers with brushes, card, rags and dip pens. I scrape away areas to reveal earlier historical marks allowing each piece to evolve over time. This year I am spending one day a week at the Curwen Print Study Centre making hand-pulled etchings, screenprints and monoprints. I take a painterly approach to printing, preferring to monoprint from each plate, making each outcome completely unique.
